Chapter Ten
Cameron
I walked into the bar, Maverick walking in behind me.
It wasn’t my club, but it was better than drinking alone in my office, so it would have to do. The bar we chose was on the other side of town and it was more of a small town, karaoke bar than my club.
I wasn’t going to turn my nose up at it. I needed the escape and the oblivion the drinking could offer me.
After my morning with Cecilia, my day got even shittier when I received a call from my contractor telling me that the plumbing wasn’t up to code so it would have to be redone before I could open. To say I was pissed would be an understatement.
Because of the plumbing issues, I would likely have to push opening day back by at least a couple weeks. I needed to set a reminder in my phone to call my planner and tell her launch day would have to wait. At this point, I was hemorrhaging money left and right with no end in sight.
Cecilia’s fee was hefty, something I didn’t want to dish out originally, however Mav showed me all the testimonies of her past clients. She came highly recommended by her peers and other people in the community. It still baffled me that Maverick never mentioned the highly recommended mixologist was my Cecilia.
My Cecilia.
She wasn’t my anything.
She threw that away six years ago.
Threw me away.
Something about our conversation the other morning rubbed me the wrong way and I couldn’t get passed it. I wasn’t upset that she was making the amount of money she was. I was proud of her for that. She had clearly worked hard in the years after we divorced, and I was so happy she had done something with her bartending background. She earned the right to charge an assload.
What pissed me off was I wasn’t the one taking care of her. That was my responsibility when we were married. It was rooted deep in me to be the one to care for her. Realizing how much she made, all on her own, was just a testament that I hadn’t been there for her.
After our fight at my club, she threw it in my face that I should have talked with her. I shouldn’t have walked away so easily without a fight. She was right. We had been together for years and I should have known something was wrong when she said she had cheated. She would never do that. Cecilia was the farthest thing from a cheater as you could get.
I should have known she was lying.
I was pissed at myself for wasting years. Years we could have had together. Years we could have spent with each other. Years where we could have had a child or two. Years completely down the drain.
I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I wanted CeCe in my life. I knew it would take some convincing on my part to get her to agree, but I knew she wanted me in her life too.
